Interesting slokam from Vishnu Puranam

I came across this slokam from Vishnu Puranam:

नैवास्तमर्कस्य नोदया सर्वदा स्तः।

उदयास्तमनाख्यं हि दर्शनादर्शनं रवेः॥ 2:8:15

There is no setting of the sun nor is there sunrise. It is always there.

Sunrise and sunset mean visibility and non-visibility of the Sun.

This is very interesting! Does it indicate a casual knowledge of a Heliocentric theory? The Vishnu Purana predates Aryabhata by most estimates. It is worth noting that, at any rate, there is no opposition between this religious book and a scientifically sound theory.

  1. Yes sir that's a very interesting observation. Usually scriptures give such an analogy to explain the soul that how it is manifested at the time of birth and then becomes unmanifested at death and remains unmanifested until next birth. But the soul is always there, there's no birth and death of soul as such. It was there since eternity and will be there for eternity. Bhagavad Gita 8.18 and 2.28.

Actually there are a lot of such things that vedas have described very subtly and modern scientific theory comes closer to that description.
Like the vedas usually use the words Bhugol and Suryamandal. Bhugol it self means the "earth-round". So there was never a question of flat earth. And there are so many such things... you can check out this nice article : https://www.teamblind.com/post/11-modern-discoveries-that-were-already-mentioned-in-vedic-texts-nmcoa62v
